The time has come: REI Co-op's biggest sale of the year kicks off on Friday, May 16. The outdoor retailer hosts their Anniversary Sale each spring, and this year, it runs through Monday, May 26 (Memorial Day). For many outdoor enthusiasts (ourselves included), this much-anticipated event is a great opportunity to purchase big-ticket items for upcoming adventures, including tents, sleep systems, backpacks, footwear, and more. Below we outline the dates and details of REI’s yearly sale, our favorite discounted items, and how to shop both in-store and online. Given the extensive scope of this year’s sale, we’ve also included a curated list below our picks highlighting more of the biggest and most notable deals.

Editor's note: This article has been sponsored by REI, but the picks and descriptions below were made independently and based on our experiences with and opinions of the products.

Dates and Details: May 16-26, 2025

From May 16 through May 26, you can shop in-store or online at REI.com and save up to 30% on products from top brands like Nemo, Thule, Big Agnes, REI Co-op, Keen, Yakima, and many more. We recommend doing your research ahead of time and shopping sooner rather than later due to limited inventory. In addition, members get two coupons to use for new gear: one for 20% off one full-priced item and one for an extra 20% off any REI Outlet product (online shoppers can use the code ANNIV2025 at checkout). REI is also offering members a third coupon for 20% off their entire order through the Re/Supply program (REI’s used gear selection) with the code USED2025. A lifetime membership to the co-op costs just $30 and comes with many other benefits. Below we outline some of our top picks for on-sale gear, including backpacking equipment, camping gear, hiking footwear, bike racks, and more.

Our Favorite Anniversary Sale Deals

Thule T2 Pro XTR Hitch Rack: 20% Off

REI Anniversary Sale (Thule T2 Pro XTR hitch bike rack)Thule is an irrefutable leader in the hitch-mounted bike rack market, and their flagship T2 Pro XTR is one of the most premium and well-built designs available in 2025. The rack’s user-friendly tilt feature is best-in-class, providing quick and easy access to the rear of the vehicle, and its versatile carrying system is compatible with a wide range of wheel and tire sizes without an adapter (not always the case in this category). The T2 Pro XTR also includes all the features you’d expect at this price point, including a wobble-free build, robust attachment system, integrated lock, and even a set of wheels at the base for easier shuttling to and from the garage. Cost is often the biggest downside to this high-end rack, but at a significant $160 discount during the Anniversary Sale, the T2 Pro XTR is worth a serious look. Of note: All Thule and Yakima racks are discounted by 20%, and a few other favorites include Yakima’s hanging RidgeBack 4, Thule’s ramp-equipped EasyFold XT 2, and Yakima’s burly StageTwo.

The North Face Wawona 6 Camping Tent: 25% Off

REI Anniversary Sale (The North Face Wawona 6 tent)Car camping can be downright comfortable with the right gear, and that starts with a quality camping tent. The North Face’s Wawona 6 earns our top billing for 2025 with a spacious, tunnel-like interior that sleeps up to six, a massive front vestibule that doubles as a covered seating area, and a hybrid double-wall construction that vents well and isn’t prone to condensation buildup. Available in four, six, and eight-person capacities, we love the six-person model even for smaller families (it’s great for hanging out in inclement weather), and the 76-inch peak height means that most won’t have to hunch over inside. It’s no small investment at $550 full MSRP, but 25% off during the Anniversary Sale translates to a substantial savings (around $138). The smaller Wawona 4 and larger Wawona 8 are also discounted.

Merrell Men’s Moab 3 Mid WP and Women’s Moab 3 Mid WP Boots: 25% Off

Merrell Moab 3 Mid WPAh, the Merrell Moab. Perhaps no other hiking boot is as ubiquitous as this one on the trail, and for good reason. In addition to being a very solid value at $150 (full MSRP for the waterproof version), the Moab is entirely capable for day hikers and lightweight backpackers who stick mostly to the trail. The boot offers a foot-friendly, comfortable feel with generous padding, good flexibility, and a secure lacing system. You also get a trusty Vibram outsole that grips well on most surfaces and holds up well over time. Taken together, the Moab is a fantastic value considering its proven and well-built design. If you prefer a low-top shoe or a non-waterproof option, the rest of the venerable Moab collection is also 25% off.

MSR PocketRocket2 Stove: 25% Off

MSR PocketRocket2 StoveMSR’s PocketRocket 2 has achieved legendary status in the backpacking community for its low weight and diminutive size that easily fits in the crevices of a pack. In terms of cooking performance, this tiny screw-on stove exceeded our expectations in testing with competitive boiling time and good fuel efficiency in favorable conditions, along with a user-friendly flame adjuster that allows for precise control and consistent simmering. Integrated designs like the Jetboil Flash, MiniMo, and Stash (also discounted by 25%) offer better wind resistance, are more efficient, and come with a pot, but it speaks volumes that we still find ourselves reaching for the PocketRocket 2 on almost every backpacking trip.

REI Co-op Men’s Flash 55 Pack and Women’s Flash 55 Pack: 30% Off

REI Flash 55REI packs are reliably high on value, and our favorite from their current lineup is the ultralight Flash 55. Despite weighing less than most mainstream packs, the Flash carries a full load very well thanks to a well-cushioned harness and full-perimeter metal frame that adds a nice dose of structure. REI also included a torso adjustment system that makes it easy to dial in a good fit, along with a unique Packmod system for customizing organization—including multiple pockets and compression straps—depending on your objective. We've tested the Flash all over the world—from long bushwhacks in East Africa to backpacking excursions in Wyoming's rugged Wind River Range—and have been impressed with its deft balance of comfort, weight, and features. If you regularly carry loads that exceed 35 pounds, it’s worth checking out REI’s Traverse 60 instead, which is a more traditional pick with a load limit of 45 pounds.

Nemo Men’s Disco 15 and Women’s Disco 15 Sleeping Bag: 25% Off

Nemo Disco 15Nemo’s spoon-shaped sleeping bags are a hit for comfort seekers and side sleepers, and their Disco 15 combines that accommodating shape with quality down insulation and thoughtful features. In terms of protection, the 650-fill-power down has a hydrophobic treatment for fending off light moisture with waterproof panels at the hood and foot box for added assurance. Other details include a built-in sleeve at the hood for keeping your pillow in place, zippered “gills” at the top of the bag to release hot air in warm weather, and a draft collar to combat the cold. The spacious design and mid-range down fill do add some weight and bulk, but there’s no denying the roominess, comfort, and functional features. Plus, with the most recent update, the bag is now part of Nemo’s sustainably built—and fully recyclable—Endless Promise collection. For a lighter and more premium option, REI’s Magma 15 is reduced from $429 to around $300 during the sale.

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 Backpacking Tent: 25% Off

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2Big Agnes’ Copper Spur has been our top-rated backpacking tent for years running thanks to its class-leading balance of weight, interior space, and features. The two-person capacity combines a healthy 29 square feet of floor space, solid headroom with pre-bent poles and steep walls, and two doors and vestibules—all at a very competitive 3 pounds. All of the smaller details are equally well sorted, including substantial zippers, thoughtful interior storage, reflective guylines and webbing, and easy adjustments to get a taut and even pitch. The dual vestibules also convert to awnings (trekking poles required), which is a nice touch for lounging around camp. Taken together, it’s the complete package for weight-conscious backpackers who don’t want to totally eschew all creature comforts—we’re looking at you, thru-hikers.

Altra Men’s Lone Peak 9 and Women’s Lone Peak 9 Shoes: 25% Off

Altra Lone Peak 9Altra’s Lone Peak was designed first as a running shoe and has since become a favorite among thru-hikers and other minimalist backpackers. The shoe has a roomy toe box, features a zero-drop shape that encourages a natural stride, and offers great ground feel with just 25 millimeters of stack height. It’s also competitively lightweight at just 1 pound 6.4 ounces per pair for the men’s version, lending a barely-there feel underfoot even on high-mileage days. It all adds up to a very comfortable shoe that’s especially appealing for long-distance hikers with wide or hard-to-please feet. Note: We’ve included the non-waterproof version here, but the Lone Peak 9 Waterproof is also discounted through Memorial Day (though the Vibram rubber-equipped Lone Peak 9+ is not).

Kelty Low Loveseat Camping Chair: 25% Off

Kelty Low LoveseatMost camping chairs are made for one person, but Kelty’s Low Loveseat is a fun and practical alternative for couples. Importantly, the chair is high on comfort with a wide and supportive seat that’s slightly reclined, and you get thoughtful details like adjustable armrests and insulated drink holders. Build quality is also quite good for the price, including a hardwearing steel frame and thick (600D) seat that can support up to 400 pounds total. Keep in mind that the seat is rather low at just 13.5 inches off the ground (many camp chairs are closer to 18 in.), but the upside is that the Low Loveseat is stable and still pretty easy to get in and out of—plus, it’s outdoor concert-friendly. If you like the design but not the two-person capacity, Kelty offers the one-person Lowdown Chair and three-person Lowdown Couch, both of which are also 25% off.

Black Diamond Pursuit Trekking Poles: 25% Off

Black Diamond PursuitBlack Diamond dominates the trekking pole space, with the Pursuit slotting in as a versatile and well-rounded option for the majority of hikers and backpackers. For starters, the all-aluminum construction is only a few ounces heavier than most carbon options while offering a sizable boost in sturdiness and long-term durability (it’s much less likely to crack or snap under stress). The Pursuit also boasts Black Diamond's comfortable, ergonomically shaped cork grips and trusty FlickLock+ levers that are quick to adjust and don’t loosen throughout the day. A final bonus: The Pursuit is one of the most sustainably built designs on the market, with algae-infused grip extensions and wrist straps made from recycled fibers.

Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket: 25% Off

Rumpl Original Puffy BlanketA good sleeping bag is a prerequisite for spending the night outdoors, but a camping blanket can help you stay comfortable before it’s time to turn in. Rumpl’s Original Puffy Blanket is our favorite overall design this year, combining functional warmth for 3-season use with a tear-resistant outer shell and water-repellant coating to shed light moisture. The features are nicely sorted, too, including a “Cape Clip” that allows you to secure the blanket around your shoulders to go hands-free, and corner loops to anchor it down in the wind. And we love the extensive selection of vibrant designs, from bright florals to national park-inspired options. Whether you’re tailgating, camping, or just curling up with a good book, the Original Puffy will keep you cozy while looking good in the process. For improved packability and weather resistance, Rumpl’s Backcountry Puffy Blanket will cost you a little more (it’s around $112 for the one-person version during the sale) but is a better match for stuffing in a pack.

Garmin inReach Mini 2 Satellite Messenger: $100 Off

REI Anniversary Sale (Garmin inReach Mini 2 satellite messenger)For reliably staying in touch during far-off adventures in the mountains or across the world, we turn to satellite messenger devices, with Garmin’s inReach Mini 2 leading the pack. Don’t be fooled by the diminutive size: This device packs a serious punch with texting capabilities, weather forecasting, navigation and tracking functionality, an impressively long battery life (up to 14 days), and a last-resort SOS feature to coordinate a rescue in the event of an emergency. We bring along our inReach pretty much any time we’re going to be out of cell service—whether we’re headed abroad without international coverage or embarking on a multi-day backpacking mission closer to home. These devices don’t come cheap and require an active subscription for use, but it’s hard to put a price on having a dependable safety net. For those more interested in Garmin's navigational features and training metrics, their Fenix 8 watches are also $100 off through Memorial Day.

Additional Anniversary Sale Highlights

There are a surprising number of excellent deals at this year’s REI Anniversary Sale, and the products mentioned above are just a small snapshot. There are several other notable discounts to have on your radar, and below we highlight some of the additional standout savings on camping and backpacking gear, clothing, hiking footwear, and more.

Other Details on the REI Co-op Anniversary Sale

There are a few ways to buy during REI’s Anniversary Sale. If you live near a brick-and-mortar REI, you can shop in-store. This is a great way to try on gear and clothing in person and make sure you’re getting the right fit. If an item is not in stock at your store, a sales representative can place the order for you online—you’ll have the option of picking it up in-store or having it shipped to your home address. Alternatively, you can go online and make your purchases either on REI.com or through the REI Outlet. Shipping is free on orders over $60 (members get free shipping regardless of the total), and you also have the option of sending your order to your local store for free pickup. Regardless of how you choose to shop, all items are covered by REI’s 100% Satisfaction Guarantee and can be returned either by mail or in-store within one year of purchase for members (non-members have a 90-day return window).

In addition to discounting gear by up to 30%, REI is giving each member two 20%-off coupons: One provides a discount on a full-price item (with some exclusions) and the other can be used at the REI Outlet (online only). If you’re shopping online, entering the ANNIV2025 code at checkout will automatically apply the discount to the highest full-price and Outlet items in your cart, so be sure to shop accordingly to maximize the discounts. Importantly, certain products are exempt from the sale, including bike simulators, ski and snowboard equipment (including skis, snowboards, boots, and bindings), kayaks, canoes, rafts, GPS-equipped electronics, and more. The coupons also won’t work on sale products, clearance items, or used gear. For a full list of exclusions, you can view REI’s details on the sale here under “terms and conditions.”
