Most of us in the outdoor world know the ubiquitous Backcountry.com logo well: the goat sticker that is plastered on everything from Subaru bumpers and cartop carriers to coolers and whitewater kayaks. Well the folks at Backcountry gave us a heads up on a new #ChaseYourGOAT campaign that kicks off today, September 5th. We can get behind the concept, which is that many of our “Greatest of All Time” experiences (hence the GOAT moniker) happen outside, and this is a fun way to read about them and share. We should mention that we are an affiliate of Backcountry, but it’s a place that we use and trust for our own gear purchases.

Details about the campaign can be found on Backcountry’s Chase Your Goat page, which launches with a number of professional athletes sharing their most memorable outdoor experiences. Snowboard legend Jeremy Jones talks about a near-death avalanche experience in Utah’s Uinta Mountains and how his friends rallied to save his life. Fly fisherwoman Ruth Sims talks about the quest for balance that she finds on the river. Basejumper Steph Davis talks about the fear and freedom that she gets from intentionally hurling herself off cliffs to fly on the way down. And the list goes on: rock climber Tommy Caldwell, freeskier Tatum Monod, and more.

Here’s where it gets good for Switchback readers: on September 23rd, Backcountry will launch a contest where you can share your #GOATworthy moments on Instagram. The prizes: the 3 best submissions will win a $1,500 Backcountry.com credit to put toward their next big adventure, which is a pretty decent chunk of change with winter on the horizon (most of us have our eyes on a lot of pricey ski gear). To enter, just pick a photo documenting one of your greatest outdoor moments, and hashtag the Instagram post with #ChaseYourGOAT and #GOATworthy — both hashtags are required to enter the contest. All in all, it looks to us like a fun and well put together campaign, so enjoy and good luck to everyone who enters!
